James A. Cerks
JAMES A. CERKS worked as a Criminal Investigator for the Intelligence Division of the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Department of Treasury before entering the practice of law. In this capacity he investigated criminal tax matters. He qualified for this position by earning an M.B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley (1971). After several years as a special agent he enrolled at Baylor University Law School. While still in law school, Mr. Cerks became a Certified Public Accountant. He graduated from Baylor in 1979 and began to work as a Certified Public Accountant in the Tax Division of Arthur Anderson and Co. Since leaving Arthur Anderson and Co. in 1981, Mr. Cerks has been involved in the practice of law with an emphasis in tax matters.
Mr. Cerks has lectured on accounting at the University of California, Berkeley and on tax law and accounting at the University of Maryland. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas (1979); U.S. District Courts for the Southern District of Texas, and the Northern District of Texas; U.S. Tax Court; and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Mr. Cerks is a member of the State Bar of Texas; the American Bar Association; the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants; the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; and the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants.
