Cybersecurity Exposure with COVID-19

As companies transition to a remote workplace during the COVID-19 pandemic, numerous virus and cybersecurity issues have arisen as cybercriminals target remote workers with phishing scams and malware.  Cybercriminals are exploiting new opportunities as organizations may not have their IT security teams readily armed to defend hacker attacks and virus intrusions.

It is reported that there is an increase of malicious emails with malware or ransomware. There appears also to be phishing scams fronting as the company IT department when it is an intruder attempting to enter the company’s system. The goal of the cyberattacks will be theft of money or personal data. As more companies continue to turn to a remote workplace during the crisis, it is certain that cybercrime will spread like COVID-19.
